2010-2011 Early Bird Bonspiel

Wow - that was a great time over the weekend!! For starters, it was good to get back to curling after the summer layoff. The ice was near perfect - very very flat - the best it has ever been at TTC. The food was wonderful and there was lots of it. Good to see all of our friends and the competition was keen. A super time!

1st Place

Congrats to Team Brown (Dave & Eric Brown, Rob Knutson, & Nick Martinez) which went undefeated - though Team John gave them a holy scare in the 10:30 draw losing by just one point. Team Brown just started curling in last season's Spring League - they have quickly become a force to be reckoned with. Eric tells me the team employs the "chaos" strategy - and if you have played them you know what he means.

2nd Place

Congrats to Team Sexton (Greg Sexton, Case Kwak, Sherry Roberts, Pat Helman, & Brian Barclay). Only loss was to Team Brown - and it was not close. Wait till next year's Early Bird!!!

Special Thanks to:

John & Roger - through whose persistence and leadership WCC actually held a bonspiel.
Ava - who honchoed Saturdays noon pot luck. Great job, Ava!! Coordinating WCC "volunteers" is like herding cats - and she handled it gracefully. [Incidentally, I discovered Ava is a retired homicide detective out of Seattle - so maybe handling a pot luck is not such a big deal to her].
Josh - handled everything to do with the awards dinner including utilizing Country Boys BBQ to selecting the location (his mother's winery). Tremendous location, ambiance, food, and fellowship. Another good time was had by WCC's curling family.
TTC Staff - best ice ever. Eddy and his crew worked long hours and very hard to get it right -- and it showed. This quality of ice will allow WCC to host a bonspiel and invite teams from other curling clubs to participate.

And thanks to all the individual curlers who participated. Great fun and sportsmanship. Seems like WCC members are all primed for the league play to start 10/10. If you plan on participating and have not contacted me, please do so now.
